Sharing Files with Public Links
Public share links let clients send files to anyone — recipients don't need an account. Links can be password-protected, set to expire on a date, or capped to a download count.
Creating a share link
- Go to My Files, right-click a file (or click the "..." button) and select Share
- Optionally set:
- Password — recipient must enter it before downloading
- Expiration date — link stops working after this date
- Download limit — link stops working after X downloads
- Click Create Link
- Copy the URL and send it to anyone
Managing share links
Go to Shared Links in the sidebar. Each link shows:
- The file name
- Status badges (Active, Expired, Password-protected, etc.)
- Download count
Action buttons per link:
- Copy — copy the link URL to clipboard
- Edit — change the password, expiration, or download limit
- Revoke — permanently deactivate the link (cannot be reactivated — create a new one if needed)
What the recipient sees
- They open the link in their browser (no account needed)
- If password-protected, they enter the password first
- They click Download to get the file
- If the link is expired, revoked, or maxed out, they see an error message — not the file
Tips
- Always password-protect sensitive files. Anyone with the URL can otherwise download them.
- Set expiration dates on time-sensitive content — invoices, drafts, contracts. Don't leave links live forever.
- Use download limits for paid content. If a customer paid for one download, set the cap to 1 to prevent re-sharing.
- Revoke unused links periodically — if nobody downloaded it within a week, revoke it. Reduces leak surface.
